I struggled with the bright sun and snow today. Snow in the foreground. Mt Rainier is reflected in aptly named Reflection lake. That's ice on the surface of the lake. It's a beautiful place.
Huge thanks to everyone who commented and fav'd - this one made the PP today.
@maggiemae@cazann@bristolrose@vitamink@carolb - Thanks for the lovely comments! This is at the 5,000 foot level - there will be snow here until late July or August and small pockets of it will remain. The mountain is over 14,000 ft - the top always has snow. :-) @dakotaburns - Thanks Donald! @lalypics - Thanks Laly! @pflaume - Thanks Lisa - can't wait to go back when the ice has melted and I can get a clear reflection shot. @cathieg - Thanks Cathie! @vitamink - Thanks K @chard - Thanks Richard! @sansjuan - Thanks Nita! @mamamia - Thanks Joanne! @andrina - Thanks for the fav, Andrina - I never get tired of this mountain!
This is stunning! The layers of snow and ice on the mountain, down to the reflection and the ice at the base of the photo make this such an interesting landscape.
@steviepix - thanks for the fav, Stevie - I am glad you like it! :-) @steampowered - Thanks Paul - it's a beautiful place! @timandelke - Thanks Elke! @luvmynynix - Thanks Laurie! @paulaw - Thanks for the lovely comment and fav, Paula. @elisasaeter - Thanks Elisabeth! @eyesmile - Thanks for the lovely comment and fav, Gena. August is the best time because of the wildflowers. @espyetta - Thanks MaryBeth - yes - ice - LOL - it's a big mountain and there is snow and ice even in summer. It's strange to be in a t-shirt, and hot and surrounded by snow! @ashesand - thanks for the fav, Cindy - glad you like it! @taffy - Thanks for the nice comment, Taffy. It was tricky - there was a wall in the foreground, and then all the snow - the sun was way too bright, so I really struggled to get a pic I was OK with. I also decided I need to add a wide angle lens to my wishlist. Thanks too - it did make PP, too.
@c17ehse - Yes you must, Mike - August is the best time for the flowers - sunset is a lovely time. On a weekend, if you are not at Paradise by 930am or 1030am it's hard to park. Reflection Lake is on the road that goes to Ohanepecosh/Stevens Canyon.
