Inspired by @jasonbarnette I experimented a bit more with lighttrails and found out that a passing tram
a) makes for really cool lighttrails
b) is a scary experience if you're standing so close that your camera is shaking on the rails and your hair is fluttering in the wind of the tram's passage.
@smevvy : I'm not sure if the DMC-FT3 can actually do that. I seem to have the newer model and it has a button on the top that you can turn to "time priority", which you can then set on four or more seconds to do lighttrails.
Wow, fav! Love the feel of danger in this but pleeeease be careful, don't want you to get hurt. Love the s.c. too and the "Galaxy" text is somehow fitting too.
@janmaki : I didn't actually think it would pass this close and I promise I won't do it again. The sign actually says "Food Galaxy" (it's a fast food place) but I also like that just the Galaxy part remains. I knew I could count on you to notice that ;).
Aww...I inspired you? That is awesome. And this is an awesome photo, great job! Isn't it kinda exciting though to have something whizzing past you like that while shooting photos??
@jasonbarnette : Yep - after reading your thread on lighttrails I was really motivated to try more of those and kept shooting everything that could make a trail, including this tram. It is exciting, yes, but I must admit I was a bit shocked at just how close the tram passes by the security rails and at what speed, too. But photography makes me fearless to a certain extent ;).
@natachamurphy : It's actually fairly easy - you have a Canon Eos, right? Just set your button on the top to Tv (shutter priority), choose a high number (this was taken with 4 seconds), balance your camera on a tripod or something else that's steady and wait for the tram to pass you. The selective colour was done with photoshop.
@jannaellen Haha...fearless! Yeah! Get it done. I know what you mean about anything that makes light trails. When I first started shooting light trails I was amazed at what makes light that I'd never considered before: amusement parks, carnivals, rotating signs, bicycles, I tried to get a kid with those shoes that light up but it didn't work.
