potential piggies by jantan

potential piggies

went to look at some Oxford Sandy and Blacks this morning. Just over one week old. In a couple of months time two or three of them might be ours.
So sweet!

@jlhopgood the plan is to buy two or three sows and when they are a year old to srart to breed from them. We then intend to sell the babies as weaners for breeding, or raising for meat or we will sell them when they are 6 to 9 months as pork or bacon. That's the plan, and my husband is very keen. I have massive reservations about my ability to wave them off to the abattoir when the time comes. In fact I have got visions of ending up with no husband and 30-odd pigs (JOKE!)

@jantan Just don't name them!!! I'd go with the 30 piggies idea.

so cute! now I'll never see bacon the same way :(

If you call the piglets 'bacon' 'sausage' 'chorizo' 'chop' 'salami' etc then you won't forget what they're being raised for. That's what we plan to do when we get home anyway. And as Hugh F-W says, as long as you give them a good life and eat every possible bit of them except the 'oink' then you can hold your head high. So cute though. Our ex-neighbour in Dean rescued the Oxford sandy and black from near extinction decades ago.
