How does that saying go? "When life hands you lemons, make lemonade, and when life hands you jackdaws.......... take a photo" or something like that.
Another day of gardening, much of which was spent scrubbing some of the outdoor furniture. A job that I have been putting off for some time. This winter I WILL store it away properly!
The screeching that has been emanating from suspiciously far down the chimney in the dining room for the past few days finally ended in this year's 'baby jackdaws falling down the chimney' ritual. This year there were two of them. As usual they were pretty much ready to fly by the looks of them, so as in other years we put them on top of the garage, but not before taking a couple of photos, naturally. I wasn't able to watch what happened, but in other years their parents have come straight down and fed them and they have flown off from there. This is one of the babies just before I let it go. It is looking pretty meek here, but don't be fooled, it was actually plotting how it could peck me and had already had a good few goes at it. That's gratitude for you.
This evening there was a talk in the village church. It was given by a historian who is an authority on medieval wall paintings. The church has several of these which have been uncovered over the years. It was fascinating to be told about how they would have looked when they were new eight hundred years ago, and what an amazing sight they must have been for the common people who lived then in a world which had very little artificial colour. Something I had never considered before.
After a busy day I almost didn't go to the talk, but am so glad that I did. It did go a small way towards making me look at the world in a slightly different way.
A super close up .That eye could compete with *Ol' blue eyes * himself !! Love the crew cut look head feathers .Beautiful in large -so much detail --even a selfie in that blue eye !! A fav
... And you were able,to relay this really interesting info to us! A good tale of the jackdaws - are, they otherwise called crows? Great shot of the unusual blue eye!
Fantastic scrubby feathered detail. I like the turn of its beak. Though personally I think the desire to peck is pretty clearly shining through any surface meekness!
Oh I wouldn't mess with him! Reminds me (your blurb not the jackdaw) of the tapestries at Hampton Court - beautiful in their own way but once made of golden thread which must have been quite a sight.
What a cool looking bird...love the blue eyes...but what fascinated me (I'm sick, I know) is that the hair (or whatever) coming out its nostril looks like a little stick person calling for help!!! lol
Excellent and what a beautiful eye. We have incredibly tame ones at a local cafe... they literally swoop down to steal cake before we've managed to get a look in!
