beady eyes and luscious lashes

Much more detail when viewed large. This little chap flew into our kitchen this morning. I thought I knew what he was but had to check online because I had never seen one so close before.

I am offering a virtual gold star to anyone who can identify it from this unusual angle ;0)

I was quite pleased with this shot because recently I have been worried because so many of the shots I take are not particularly well focused. This one was hand held at 1/20 second, so probably a bit of a fluke!

Feeling quite smug today as I have got lots of chores done, although having to chase Elsie, one of our pigs, and four of her babies around the field in the rain because they escaped when I was feeding them did take the gloss off things somewhat. My jeans are now covered in muddy piggy snout prints.
No idea, scale?

Super shot Jan. I guess ... a bat.

Not sure what it is, but it's a great, clear shot. It looks like he's got the body of a bird with the face of a fish!

It's a moth of some type. Such a great close up. The eyes are amazing.

Amazing creature, I don't think it's a bat with those big eyes so I go for a moth too...great detail & it looks rather creepy!!

I have to say, my cat, Pandora, sometimes has exactly the same expression - must be the water :)

This is incredible -- clear and sharp and beautiful. I'd guess a moth but not like any I've seen. Fav. I,d love to what lens you used to capture so much detail.

You have me fooled. I keep thinking it's a moth - but something in the eyes tells me different!
Sharp focus and great details.

@princessm @craftymeg @nairda @suesmith @cookie123 @cdonohoue @tremerryn @catwoman2 @calm @farmreporter @happypat @paula1 Those of you who said moth are correct, and Sue my son said it looked like a fish. In fact it is a hummingbird hawk moth. We have had quite a few in the garden this year. They are easy to recognise when they are on the wing because they are day-flying moths which hover like a hummingbird while feeding on nectar from flowers using their long proboscis.

@catwoman2 I used a Canon 100mm f2.8 macro lens - it is fantastic!

Wowzer! That looks like some kind of mutant cross between an insect and a furry mammal. Put a leash on him and name him George. ;-)
I didn't know a moth could have such eyes.
Big fat Fav.

Wow! This is awesome!! Fav
I caught a hawk moth in flight while on holidays. I don't see them around where I live, so I was very happy to be able to catch it.
