bit of a mixed day. When I went to feed the donkeys this morning I discovered that a fox has got into our chicken run and killed our three chickens. The run is really well built, with the chicken wire and barbed wire being buried 12 inches below the ground and the fence being about 6 feet tall.
The problem is that a few weeks ago I discovered that the goats had been climbing on the wire to reach some brambles and torn a hole in the chicken wire. I had patched it up with some stock netting and it seems that the fox must have got in through that, so I am feeling pretty guilty, aswell as sad. I still can't imagine how it managed to get through, given the size of the holes and the fact that it was quite high up the fence, but there is no doubt that that was the place.
On a brighter note, Graham was very fortunate to be taken to the rugby world cup final today - the full corporate package, the lucky thing, and I went to a really good art exhibition at Warwick University which was full of very inspiring stuff.
Chickens are so lovely & individual beings that we become very personally involved......those foxes are a crafty bunch & can negotiate the strongest fortress....I am on the chickens side not being a lover of foxes.....in fact the least said on here the better! Hope Graham enjoyed the rugby....I didn't see him ha ha but envied him...the full package too even better! No sandwiches in a plastic bag for Graham! So pleased with the result!
So sad about the chickens -- no wonder it is known as the wily fox !!
This is beautiful -- great teasels silhouette against the most gorgeous sky and the ball of fire !! fav
Wonderful silhouettes and bokeh, fav. I am so sad to hear that about the chickens. If I lived in a suitable place, which I don't, I would have one or more pet chickens (would never eat them as I'm vegan). But I'm sure you did the best you could for yours.
This photo conveys your sadness....so sorry about the chickens, but you cannot be there for all to protect them, but I know you will do whatever you can to prevent this from happening in the future! Beautiful shot, and a FAV!
This is beautiful...instant fav...love it.
