George wasn't very well towards the end of last year. He had a series of unexplained skin issues and ended up having several small biopsies done just before Christmas. Each of these were stitched with a single dissolvable stitch.
Well that was about a month ago, and as you can just about see from his front left legs, the stitches are still in place, and are starting to irritate him. So I took him to the vets today to have them removed.
We rehomed George a few years ago. He is a big old boy, weighing in at about 35kg, and that coupled with the fact that in his previous home he didn't have a bed, so just slept on the kitchen floor, resulted in the callouses on his elbows.
The biopsies were pretty inconclusive, so he was treated for allergies with a long-lasting injection, which will probably have to be repeated on a monthly basis. It worked really quickly and he is now much better.
Poor George. Glad the injection is working for him. One of my dogs has skin issues too and the vet is thinking about doing the same test as George has had. I might think twice if the test doesn’t give a definite answer. My dog had a big flare up just before Christmas which turned out to be a yeast infection and he had to have baths twice a week. Now he’s on a low dose steroid tablet which seems to be helping. The vet tried an injection but that didn’t help much.
@nickspicsnz There are so many things that can cause these sort of issues. He was on steroids which didn't do an awful lot (apart from make him wee in the kitchen every night!) As well as the biopsies, he had skin scrapes done and we had expected to find some sort of mite infestation (we have a lot of different types of animal.) The injection he had is called Cytopoint in the UK. I hope your dog gets sorted soon, it is horrible when they are itchy and sore.
Look at him. What a little star, reminds me of a traditional mohair teddy bear with a few rubbed bare patches He has fallen on his feet with you and is now very much loved and as we all know now comfy!

@lucycameron Thanks Lucy. That is funny because I often think his hair and dark skin on his muzzle look like an old teddy, his fur is very much the same texture. I am actually considering giving him his own 365 account to record his comfy exploits.
