This is the Cortines School of Visual and Performing Arts in downtown Los Angeles. We are certainly not falling behind other major metros in innovative architecture but the design does bring a few other more frightening images to mind

Hmmm, just looking at your photo I couldn't figure out if the ribbon (for lack of a better term) had a practical use or if it was a very large, expensive design element. According to Wikipedia it was supposed to be practical (a public space tower with the ribbon to be ramp access) but school officials objected, so it's a large, expensive design element. It sure stands out, not exactly my cup of tea when it comes to architecture, if it's purpose is to stand out, it is very successful.
