Robert Capa, in what could be called an over used quotes, said "if your pictures aren't good enough, you're not close enough."
Shooting a water balloon throwing contest with my 12-24mm was not the "safest" thing to do, but I had to be close to get the shot I wanted. None of the balloons broke near me, so I never had the chance to get the bursting balloon shot, but this worked pretty well.
