We FINALLY got some snow here (we had a freak snow in October!) while my kids were out snowboarding, I walked around our yard to take some pictures. It's been SO unseasonably warm here (WV/MD line) that my Bradford Pear Tree was starting to bud! Love how the snow fell on this leaf and bud. Wish I had a better macro! Right now, Just using Macro/Close up rings.
Great catch! Love the macro, I am using my phone so I am rather limited lol...we almost always get snow in Oct here! I love the contrasting seasons that can show up in a snow pic.
By the time I got outside, it wasn't snow, it was just a slushy ice; no sun; depressingly gray winter day. Drove to Occoquan and took a couple of shots. Hopefully one of them has enough light to be useable. Which is the long version of... oh, I like this!!
@tamsg4 - I've seen some amazing captures with cell phones! It's the person working the camera that has the talent, so don't let your cell phone limit you. You operate and control it - work with it!
@juleswoome - definitely get some! I got mine from the local camera store for $50. Then I researched the same ones on Amazon and I paid WAY too much for them. I saw the same set I got for $20, brand new.
@swguevin - that's too bad about the snow! Especially since we've been so deprived!
@copperheadglass - definitely get some of those rings (see my note above in this reply) they are very inexpensive and well worth buying and playing with until you can get the macro lens that you want. I wasn't sure I wanted a macro lens, but once I started playing with these, I really want one now! That will be my next purchase!
@gailwf - Here's what I have and I love them! I usually only use the one ring, which is the +4. It suits my needs perfectly. If I stack the others on, or on top of another, the depth of field just becomes TOO much and there's not enough focus space. You could probably only order one ring if you can find it, rather than buying a whole set. I have Canon and I use it on my 50mm 1.8. But you need to bump your aperture up to like 5.6 so your depth of field isn't too narrow. http://www.amazon.com/Close-Up-EOS-Digital-18-55mm-75-300mm/dp/B003DLFZAI/ref=sr_1_12?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1327192675&sr=1-12
@leighsees - I tried to head down there yesterday, but my kids put up a huge protest (as they were really wanting to get home and play in the snow) Though, we only got 2-3 inches with a little ice on top. I want to go when we have more snow and it sticks to the branches of the trees!
