Three Hooded Plovers

These birds are critically endangered, there are approximately 600 left in the state of Victoria. I was lucky enough to see six on the beach yesterday. When they nest there are volunteers that guard the nests and stop people walking their dogs too close etc.

we get Killdeer here and they always seem to nest in wild places as a Land surveyor we would stake and flag off their nest to protect them, they seem not to mind the flagging , Great capture Jennifer !!

@difeeney @brillomick Thanks Diana. Mickey I had to look up Killdeer, there are so many different plovers in the world! They look like a lovely bird. Life is so hard for ground nesting birds

Beautiful capture! We have endangered Western Snowy Plovers nesting on our beaches now. They have a program that helps protect them as well.

@aaroo4 @hillcrest @girlie @giselle @elvita @stefaneady @exposure4u @sandimarie @barrymikhal @carebear @http365proj @glendq @lindalu thanks for the lovely comments, I think they huddled together a bit because I had my dog off the leash because they are not usually on that particular stretch of beach- I think they were about to take off- lucky shot!
