The shoulder of the mountain is done. Now I see the summit of the Dachstein in front of me. A cloud is just coming up. I have to get over the crest and then find the cross-step above the glacier tongue. Then it goes up vertically to the summit cross.
You can see how the glacier pushes up steeply to the mountain. Some climbers choose this route to avoid climbing over the mountain-shoulder. But this way is very risky: Across this glacier tongue a mighty crevasse runs. You have to find a way outside along and then head to the middle and to the beginning of the rock. The glacier there is very steep. If you slip, you end up in the crevasse.
After your description, I am happy to just look. My walking exploits will be less ambitions than this. But Im so glad you are up to these expeditions and can bring us the delightful results that you do.
Oh my gosh, that does look very dangerous country. You'd need to know what you're doing up there or you'd be a statistic. Stunning view though, thank you again for sharing these sights with us.
It's been forever since I've checked in on 365, but on a whim I decided to look in on my 365 friends for a quick moment. How rewarding to have this be one of the first shots I see! It's fabulous, of course, and I am so glad to see you are still doing your awesome thing. (I'll be back.........)
@casablanca Du warst auch schon am Dachstein - ein besonderer Berg ist das. Im Sommer kannst du sehr problemlos auf dem markierten Weg über den Gletscher wandern und die Aussicht genießen.
