The tree looks like menacing and sharp - like it would cut through the ice. In fact, the shadow looks like it is a gap in the snow - I'm imagining the tree having cut a line right through it. Curious and strong image.
@louannwarren The bark beetles attacked the trees from the summit to a certain contour line. In this zone, the trees were the most weakened. We are approximately at this border, where the healthy trees begin. The trees in the background are therefore only very occasionally regrown trees. The larger ones in the background belong to an older population.
@jerome Thank you, Jerome, I know that the extended droughts we’ve had in America have weakened our forest trees particularly in the West. The beetles attack those weakened trees and consequently we have lost many thousands of square miles of trees. So the beetle is a world wide problem!
@louannwarren I'm afraid the beetles are just a single symptom of many. I suspect they all have a common cause: thoughtless and unscrupulous human intervention in nature.
Thank you for your kind attention and nice comments!
