Brockadale (2) Marbled White females

Brockadale is a Yorkshire Wildlife Trust reserve which I visited with a friend on Tuesday. I went in search of butterflies, my botanist friend was looking for plants. We both came away happy.
These pretty insects are female Marbled Whites which despite their confusing name are actually of the brown butterfly family.

What a lovely image! The butterflies are so delicate and pretty. Great that they posed so nicely for you on that colorful thistle! Lovely bokeh as well. Fav.

Beautiful, their wings look like a monotone mosaic.

@joev Thanks, Joe, the girls have brown marking, the boys have black. Either/both totally gorgeous. With luck in the next couple of weeks I'll visit a tiny village deep in the Dales where the Marbled Whites live in huge numbers along the single track road side, feeding on scabious.

Glorious! There seem to be lots this year but they hardly ever seem to come to rest so that I can get my camera out! Having said that - today was cloudy and I did manage to find one that needed a short rest!
