These gloriously gorgeous little birds prefer to sit singing on my chimney and never visit the feeders. But this one decided the Knapweed now turning to seed and growing just outside the back door, was a buffet too great to resist. I spent 15 stealthy minutes filming and this is a still from video.
You may - or not - find the black more pleasing.

@gemmabrowne This is my first! I don't know how long we've been feeding birds and he decided the Knapweed was better - from my perspective it definitely was. 15 minutes of filming as he ate and ate and ate. Wonderful! Thank yo very much

@rosiekind@annepann@milaniet@milaniet Thank you all very much. I'm not sure how it's happened but my Goldfinch has become a trendy & popular little birdie. Many thanks indeed, a wonderful way to start my day

I love the look and the song of golfinches! What do you have on your feeders? Sunflower hearts are usually utterly irresistible to them. I think they are probably the most numerous birds in our garden with sparrows coming a close second. The strange thing is they seem to take it in turns....the feeders are either covered in sparrows or covered in goldfinches but hardly ever at the same time.
@julienne1 Thank you, Julienne. Feeders: mixed seeds, meal worms, suet/fat pellets, fat balls without the nasty plastic nets.
I've never had a Goldfinch before, he stripped the Knapweed seed heads and then flew away, haven't seen him since. It was a brief visit, but what a delightful one.
