I decided, in a fit of insanity to play with the reversed lens Canon 500d this morning and set focus on a Verbena Bonariensis. Red Admiral had the same idea. The butterfly did not move for several minutes allowing me to take a few shots. Not even the flash bothered him/her. This f14, handheld with only minimal lightening, I didn't dare change settings to correct the exposure. Didn't even take my own advice and use the 2 second shutter delay.
This a tight crop of the face. I wonder how much more the Canon & its kit lens will allow me to crop?

@fbailey Thank you. I thought it astonishing enough before I cropped but this is beyond expectation. Pity the Admiral won't be back so I can experiment with f number & shutter speed. He was VERY cooperative, most are not

@koalagardens@madeinnl@joev Thank you all. It's amazing what a tiny crop can reveal. Pity insects don't sit still very often so I could get close enough not to need a crop
