I really like the FZ1000 but at 931gms it was becoming a bit too heavy for me at 174 years to hold steady. The TZ200 (again Panasonic) weighs only 340 gms, has the same large sensor, almost the same reach and more twiddly bits than I shall ever need - including post focus and focus stacking.
Hopefully we'll get on really well together and produce a few half decent photos. Any failures will be entirely mine!

wow 174 years!!!!!!!!!!! I totally hear you tho - being out on a quad bike and having to grab and shoot as I come across wildlife, small and light wins for me!
@madeinnl First will be one of Her Tillyness of course. The little camera's first attempt was of her, as one might expect. Might use it tomorrow morning if there's anything in the moth trap. It's an interesting little toy and much lighter than the FZ1K which I really do like, but sadly is becoming too heavy.

@koalagardens Yes, 174. Always have been. TZ200 has a remarkable reach and extensive features. Lens is perhaps a bit slow and might be soft when fully zoomed to its furthest extent, but that's a reasonable compromise. We'll soon find out what it can do...

@fbailey It's so tiny. Classed as a travel point & shoot rather than a "serious" camera I think, but it's got an EVF comparable to ones in previous cameras. Not as good as the FZ1K's but by no means inadequate. If I can master the focus stacking I'll be happy and by Peacock eclosion time (next weekend) I should have sorted video & maybe the time lapse feature. Brain ache of a pleasing kind.

Do like Panasonic, I have an older FZ50 a TZ80 and a G1, all great cameras and Panasonic now own Leica thatâs why a lot of their camera have Leica Lens. The Tilly picture is great.
@jelley_baby I like Pany too. Got a TZ35, had a blue G1, traded it for a GH2 which I still use but found myself "wrong lensed" far too often & not strong enough to carry heavy loads. Got a FZ1000K for a trip to California 3 years ago, gave that to a friend & bought another (REALLY like the FZ1K) but now even that is too much. The TZ200 should keep me happy for a few years. That's the theory at least. It feels a bit like playing at the moment, it's so light, and of course there is no muscle memory yet, have to look when I try to change things. I'll get there.
Many thanks

@susiemc My even more ancient TZ35!!! does super moth pics, that's my favourite for early morning half asleep opening the trap & hoping for something really rare...
It'll be a while before TZ200 takes over, lots of learning for me even though it has the same menus/features (with extras) as its big brother.
It's going to the meadow today so I'll see how it copes with dragons & damsels as well as butterflies.
j
@lostphojo It's the usual getting to know you process. It'll be a while before I can change settings without looking as I can with the FZ1000. It's a bit slower too but since most of my photography is outside that shouldn't be too great an issue. Like you (thank you) I look forward to results!
