Several Firsts! by jetr

Several Firsts!

First attempt at night photos, manual mode, and Northern Lights! Nothing great, especially with the wires in the foreground. This was off the back steps of our school and it was pitch dark (and 15F degrees!) and I'm too scared of the possibility of wolves and bears without my husband and his "bear gun" for insurance. I'll bring a photo buddy next time! (SOOC)
You didn't mention a tripod, but if you have another secure spot to set the camera, try ISO640 f/5.4 for about 30 seconds. 30 is about as long an exposure before the stars start to track. Your time may vary because of how far north you are. Dress warm :-)

@byrdlip Thanks for the tips. I did have a tripod and played around with the shutter speed - much longer gave me almost daylight, but I was also at F/3.5 & ISO 800. I'll try your suggestion next time and might get a stronger image. I appreciate the advice!
