Aana Mildred by jetr

Aana Mildred

Quick snap of one of our beloved elders, Aana (Grandma) Mildred. 80+ years old, she walks over to the school every day to visit the students and take home a hot lunch. She always wears her native winter garb, a wolverine-lined "parky," and moose-soled mukluks on her feet. She is a tiny (5' tall) priceless treasure. We all love her very much.
A very interesting photo. And not a lot of light, correct?

Love that you care for each other, young and old.

@scotthouston Thank you, Scott. Our current sunrise is 10:17 am and sunset is 4:11 pm. It's also a rather cloudy day. It warmed back up to +23F / -5 C and we finally got about an inch of snow last night. It was -8F/-22C just two days ago.

@overalvandaan Thank you! In a village of only 250 residents, we pretty much know everyone. :-)

A fascinating glimpse of life in a part of the world far away from my experiences. Thanks for sharing.

Your small village is such a close-knit family- I think that's wonderful. How wonderful to be so independent and healthy to walk to the school at her age.

@jetr Wow. I recently spent two years in India -- 90-100+ F was the norm (and I grew to like it). No need of a swimming pool where you are! Look forward to seeing what comes next.

What a lovely photo and the back story, thank you.

What a character she sounds and the life she was born to scarcely exists anymore so it's good to have people like her to remind us... and people like you to capture her image.

@yrhenwr I took this one a while back, not a portrait, but a candid at one of our basketball games. Mildred is the one on the right. Aana Josephine is in the middle, and Aana Edna is on the left. http://365project.org/jetr/365/2015-01-10
