Ouse: 7.45 am

I head out today less because I want to and more because I don’t want not to.
The ground, the air are wet
Woodpecker in the field
I swim hard
Breath clouding in the grey
Conscious of cold on my hands and between my fingers
Occasional fat plops of rain from the wet trees
On the bank my skin is flushed and sensitive
I think I actually feel the cooled blood from my limbs return to my core.
Red hawthorn in the mizzle.
