I was dismayed to find this wing- of an American goldfinch I think- on the ground next to the car which is where the cats show off their catch. We have mostly successfully discouraged them from killing birds with our hose treatment so mostly the treasures are moles, mice, and rats. But today there was this. Its textures were calling out for a photo so I did my best to honor its foreshortened life.
Thanks for the suggestions re yesterday's disappointing nasturtium shot. I will be back out to shoot them again another day.
@andysg Yes. The macro class I took recently taught re using deeper dof for macro shots. He also zinged me for using high ISO though you and I oth have a camera that can handle it. No reason not to have slow shutter speed here though
@jgpittenger Ok next question. Was this on a tripod and was the VR turned off as the image isn't quite as tack sharp as I would expect. I haven't done any macro with my D800 yet so can't compare.
I would never have guessed this was a feather Jane...so beautiful & specially with the rain drops highlighting the lines & markings....I liked your nasturtiums!!
Incredible detail... sorry about the little bird. Our neighbor found one of his sheep dead this morning... we think a coyote got it... gonna be more careful about walking our dogs in the fenced area at night. Beautiful photo.
Gorgeous close-up with the rain drops. My cat used to leave a little green body part in the middle of the stairs to the house. Either he didn't like it, or it was his trophy
You have a black and white eye if you can visualize a colorful goldfinch feather in monochrome. Amazing detail. My neighbors cat is no longer welcome here after I caught her at two robin nests.
