Jasmine's Drum b and w

For my mentoring group's assignment for this week- black and white using artificial light. What a stretch for me! I played around more than I ever have with my off camera flash. I took shots where the shadows disappeared and ones that brought out more details. I placed the flashes in all sorts of places and shot with different potency to the different flashes. But in the end I liked the sharp shadows and mysterious feel to the placement of the flash. Thanks so much for coming on this journey with me.
@taffy @newbank @888rachel @golftragic @pamknowler I'm learning a lot though wishing I weren't sick for this assignment. I need more brain function for creativity

@jgpittenger I'm stuck with sickness this week too! Got poorly kids needing looking after so no camera out. Might not get much done at all now. I too like the mysterious feel to this shot. And wonderful lighting.

Very mysterious shadows & subdued light......I,like the lines downwards & crossways!

Fantastic lighting, off camera flash is something I haven't had a chance to play with yet.

I like this Jane - a mysterious feel to the shot - I would not have know this was a drum. I think I need another week at this one as I am struggling with the off camera flash settings at the moment!!

I really love this beautifully detailed B&W image. The lighting is superb :)

@pamknowler I agree with needing another week! Much harder and many more things I need to try!

Jane, I'm glad for the title as it helped frame how I studied this -- which I did as it's so well done with the lines/shadows/textures. I like your choice of the sharper shadows and think the figure calls for it. It almost has a look of an idol -- the 2001 Space Odyssey monolith, for example.

@taffy @newbank @888rachel @golftragic @jgpittenger
If that's ok then lets say we will continue with B&W with artificial light until Sunday 27th September. Sorry to highjack your post Jane!!

@pamknowler @taffy @888rachel @newbank @golftragic I'm ok (barely) with continuing this challenge until the 27th in service to learning, but I will be gone from the 26- the first week in Oct without a computer so hoping we won't do processing assignment until later in Oct

Beautiful shot! I like this lighting too!

This makes sense -- let's continue with artificial lighting as there are so many different types to play with and experiment on...I think another week for sure, and then we can decide on the 25th or so whether to continue or move to something new. We'll hold off on processing ones til mid-October, then...

This looks great. So mysterious, with all the play of light and shadows. I would never have picked it as a drum.

Wonderfully mysterious Jane, the dark tones and great textures in the drum kept my eye playing around for ages. Sorry to hear you're not well, and hope your health improves soon.
