Another experiment with attempting to model after Cheryl Medow's work. I took a flying blue heron that I took recently in RI and placed it in a photo I took of my swimming lake where I often see a blue heron. I added a reflection and am pretty pleased with how it worked out. I'd love to hear what you think and any suggestions. Thanks for your visits, comments, suggestions, favs and for taking my hummer with hhis tongue out to the PP
A really lovely 'calming' and cohesive image Jane! The background and bird reflection are perfectly balanced. To my eyes, the angle of reflection is just a nudge different to that of the bird. I would lower the contrast on the heron to accommodate the mist effect, and maybe add light sculpting on the bird, a little like the pontoon railings have strong shadow/light interface. A great use of the bird & background in the fine art style of Cheryl Medow for sure! :)
@jgpittenger I just flipped an exact copy of the bird vertically - when I compared them it was only about 2or 3 degrees rotation different - I think it was because the branch reflection is exactly mirrored - if you draw a straight line from the tip of the beak to the tip of the toes in each you can see what I mean. It is really only a bit - and if the branch was not an exact mirror reflection, it might not have been noticeable.
Looking at favs to view, I'd say that everyone is in agreement that this really worked out well!! I'm particularly impressed with the way you were able to create such a natural reflection on a calm lake. It is fabulous in composition and well worth the effort. You're on to a style you can call your own.
