Blue Heron Watching the Fog Hugging the Hills By the River
I have to say Cheryl Medow's work continues to thrill me and I used a combination here of textures and her approach. When I photograph a scene like this with a bird that disappears in the distance, I feel reluctant to zoom in and lose the environment but still want the bird to be visible... and the I remember Cheryl's approach. Best of course on black if you have time.

Black background is a must. One thought I had is trying a slight lightening of the area by the heron - not so much of a spotlight but a slight lightening of it. The background is dramatic and will draw our eye no matter what, but that way the heron would have a slightly stronger presence. For me, having it in the title keyed me to be alert for it, but it was a conscious looking, rather than the bird itself having a strong presence. Just a thought.
