White Egret In Flight by jgpittenger

White Egret In Flight

Another shot from my trip up the Coast. I think I am finally catching on to shooting BIF when they are white or really dark. It is awfully tricky, I think.
Thanks for your wonderful response to yesterday's campfire on the beach shot and for your visits, comments, suggestions, favs
Well done!!! Is this your first time shooting BIFs?

You captured the detail so well, which I think is especially tricky for a white bird.

This one's a real gem - such good detail on the egret and love the light through the wings - perfect background. Fav

Beautiful capture. What focus mode are you using, continuous with what group of focus points. My BIF's lately haven't been too good, since I started using my daughters camera. D7100. Just can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Have increased shutter speed, but it still doesn't seem to focus in on them that well.

@rickster549 I’m using usually manual mode, 5.6 aperture, shutter speed based on the bird...much faster for hummers, and auto ISO. I use 9 pt focus, continuous of course and mostly aim for the chest rather than eye since the eye is so small I tend to get background in focus instead of bird if I aim for eye!

Wow!

A beauty! Super technique - I can't reliably capture BIF... my reflexes too slow. :(. Wonderful job.

I'd say this is more than 'catching on' and more like 'perfecting.' Really fabulous capture and composition.

Very clever and appealing shot. I'll leave the BIF to you Jane.

Hi Jane - if this is tricky for you - it's impossible for me. To me this appears to be the absolutely perfect image! You have such wonderful skill. :)
