Best on black. After spending a few days in Mammoth, we took a snow coach up to Old Faithful. We stopped along the way and found this amazing frost. It is made from gas freezing and freezes into a featherlike pattern. The guide told us the name of it but I have forgotten. Does anyone know?
Thanks for your wonderful response to yesterday's sunset and for your visits, comments, suggestions, favs
Here’s what I just learned re Frost: Hoarfrost: buildup of ice (in the form of crystals, often delicate and feather-shaped) when water vapor in the air condenses as ice on a surface. In short, the main difference between rime and hoarfrost is that rime is the result of freezing fog, Hoarfrost forms in the absence of fog.
@irisn you can’t drive personal cars in the park in winter. We stayed both in Mammoth and at the snow lodge near Old Faithful. We took a wake to wildlife tour and a photo safari tour. They were both totally fabulous. I like Yellowstone a thousand times better in Winter...not many people and no traffic
Great photo. I wish I was up there but live in the UK.
Never heard of this freezing method but it's very attractive!
