Best on black. I've been playing with some videos from Blake Rudis in which he teaches taking a photo in mid day and then making it into a night shot. It took way more time than it was worth but I enjoyed doing it. The lighthouse and ocean were taken in daylight, the Big Dipper was taken from the same spot at night when the moon was small.
