I had never seen these sea creatures before. They are amazing. Does anyone know what they are called?

Hi Jane, I confirm that it is a kind of goose barnacle. I happen to be quite familiar with this animal, as there are regular strandings on the beach where I live. In French, we have a specific word ("anatife") to distinguish the species that lives on floating stuff and gets stranded on beaches (it is not very good to eat), from a different species ("pouce-pied") that lives attached to the rocks and needs to get harvested (it is delicious to eat). Curiously, it seems that the English language has only one single word ("goose barnacle") to designate both species, at least I have not found any distinction when googling in English. It might simply be because eating neither species would be in the English culture, and so there is no need for two different words, I do not know.
