Up Close and Personal!!

I am so excited about my project today - not so much for the photo but for the experience of getting the photo. My 5 year old yelled out to me that the echidna was in our front garden, so I grabbed the camera hoping it wouldn't dig itself in and off I went. I found it in the garden and started snapping shots before it hid itself which it did a couple of times but would come out again. I was suprised at how brave it was as they are quite shy. I got myself sitting on our dirt driveway and kept snapping as it came out of the garden to cross the drive and then I realised it was coming closer to me. I stopped taking photos and kept still as it approached me, then with it's long nose touched my leg as it sniffed me - so exciting!!!

Wow, that is so exciting and I love the shot you got. The kids are great at letting us know when there is something cool to shot.

@smithss_27106 - spot on Susan, echidnas are mammals that lay eggs then they do feed their young milk. They are called monotremes. The only other monotremes are the platypus.
@top2042 Thankyou

Hello little fellow! How absolutely fabulous you have one in your yard. Great pic considering how unsocial they can be.

This is a great shot and fellow Aussie know how difficult it would be to take. They are very shy creatures. I've only ever seen one up this close and that was found by my children in our garden!

Fantastic shot and I am so jealous! I looked everywhere for an echidna for my E shot in the A-Z challenge! They are so hard to capture because of their shyness. This is a brilliant shot and I am making it a fav.

@misa_dobu @redfl83 @farmboy9155 thanks for the comments - really appreciate them :D @girlie - I know what you mean Robin, I was driving along the other day and saw one walking along the grass so I pulled over and jumped out with my camera but by the time I got to it, it had already dug in and all I got was it's back!!
