I'm not sure if they noctilucent clouds, but I think they are.
Anyway, this was the view last night, about 2 hours after sunset. (In other words, at about 1 am today.) Lovely mist, gorgeous sky. Luckily I had my camera with me - when we saw this out of the car window, we quickly pulled over to the next bus stop and I grabbed my camera and got a few frames. Fabulous moment! For once I had the camera with me when I really needed it!
I'm told they are indeed noctilucent clouds. Phew, I thought I might make a fool of myself trying to identify natural phenomenon without really knowing what I'm doing... :D
@humphreyhippo They were quite lovely, indeed. Too bad last night was so cloudy that there was no room for these beauties and even the super moon was hiding. Oh well, I'll keep my eyes open after sunset these few following nights, perhaps I'll get more shots before the time of noctilucent clouds passes.
Well talk about being in a right place at the right time and with the camera too, this is simply fabulous, love love that sky! I got home at midnight I think, I should have definitely stayed out longer, dammit! A fav.
@susale I was really lucky - we had been in Salo on a gig (my friends from Jyväskylä were playing) and were driving back home around 1 am. I had not shot a single frame on the gig, but the camera was in the bag in any case. :) If it hadn't been so darned cold, we might've stayed by the roadside longer, just admiring the beauty of the scene, but oh well, I got my frames and a few hugs, so I was perfectly happy with the end result. ;) Thanks for the fav! :)

Suomen kesäyöt on kyl niin hienoja, tarttis itekin päästä kuvaileen, harmittaa vaan kun koko ajan on jotain menoo ym, tuntuu, et ei yhtään ehi vaan nauttii olosta ja just ei oo pal mitään lomaakaan tänä vuonna pahemmin luvassa :(
@susale Oikein onnistunut ilta. ;) Ja joo, onneksi nyt sattui just tuolle illalle tää hieno luonnonilmiö, muutenhan tässä on ollut vähän turhan pilvisiä öitä nyt taas. Ja vaikka mulla tätä lomaa on ihan tarpeeksi (no eikä oo, ei kenelläkään koskaan oo, hahahah), tuntuu silti siltä, ettei kaikkea ehdi tehdä. Mut ehkä mä vielä ehdin joku yö valvoa ja mennä jonnekin kuvaamaan. Kun vaan keksis että minne. :D Mut kun sen paikan keksii ja viitsii uhrata yöunistaan joitakin tunteja, se on yleensä aina sen arvoista. Kunhan noi auringonnousutkin taas vähän myöhäistyy, pitää mennä taas auringonnousukuvauksiakin harrastamaan.
@northy I love this time of year here, when two hours after sunset the sky looks this light - the sun's actually almost starting to rise again. :) I'm going to come back to this photo in November when it's dark and miserable!
