Turkey Vulture (watch you pets)

My nephew spotted this guy and he was soaring way above us. Excited I tried for a shot and forgot to extend the lens to it's fullest. Dang! So not the clearest shot but I have to post as it was such a magnificent bird and I am hoping you get some idea of that. I may not get to comment much until tomorrow - went in early to do statements and feeling sleepy tonight.
They are magnificent birds.... I especially like his wingtips you caught him beautifully Joan....Great capture! :))

Good catch! Although not the prettiest bird in the sky, they really are fun to watch when they are gliding.

for a bird in flight, this is terrific! His wing tips look like feathers. I don't think they care about your pets until they've died.

@francoise Just looked it up and they do indeed eat small mammals. Glad Two is an indoor cat.

I like how you have the wings as diagonals across that lovely blue sky.

I like how the feathers are spread at the ends of the wings. Still a nice capture Joan.

Lovely focus on those outstretched wings.

Lovely photo, Joan!! I've gained a lot of respect for these guys and have a few photos in my project. The research shows that they rarely kill for their food, but search out looking for decaying carcasses which includes small mammals. Best part is they keep our environment clean!! They are spooky looking, but they are awesome in flight with a huge wing span. Well done, Joan!

Great capture Joan. Just this morning, I saw the first of the Canada geese returning. What a welcome sight! Dave saw a robin red breast last week (in deep snow -poor bird; he must be wondering where the worms are) and I still have not heard my mourning doves out there. Ah, to open wide the windows!
