Underwater bike ride? by joansmor

Underwater bike ride?

My sister and I were down by the mills and the dam this morning taking pictures. We want to create a memory book of places we both remember from our youth growing up in area. We were standing on the bridge taking pictures when I looked over the edge of the concrete railing to spot the bicycle in the water. I tried to point it out to my sister but she is the older sister but I am the taller sister. She couldn't see over the railing. But seeing my picture she said it was my capture of the day. I'm thinking some kid got mad at another kid and in the drink went the bike. As is my usual thing this is HDR.
Oh dear!! This is a great shot!! And I love your idea of creating a memory book of places that you remembered from your youth. I think I might have to do that one day.

Could have been a stolen bike too! Great find and capture!

I was thinking same as Janice, stolen bike and then abandoned! And great idea on the memory book!

The shot leaves me wondering about the hows and whys of the bike, but I really love the "sister story," exploring memory book locations.

Great shot...and most likely the story is a true one. Too bad though.

A great HDR processing Joan. Poor bike. Maybe someone will retrieve it, fix it up, and give it a good home...LOL.

Well spotted -- it does create a story/mystery, wondering how that ended up there. Who the owner is.

Looks like a very nice bike. I hope that wasn't the case, but more than likely it is. Hurray for the taller sister for spotting it! :-)

It looks like a perfectly good bike! Can't help but wonder what the story is behind it's being in the water. There was a bike in the water near the ferris wheel that I posted the other day. The handlebar, petal and a bit of a front wheel could be seen as the Mississippi river rolled over it. The same possible story came up as an option for how it got there — someone being mean to someone else and throwing a perfectly good bike into the river out of spite.

Oh dear, it does look in good condition, definitely a story there.

@lyndemc There are the beautiful shots and then there are the thought provoking shots. Glad this one qualified for the second.

I really love the hdr effect Joan, such great detail!

The story I had was kids playing and temporarily abandoning bike, since it's in reasonable condition. Vivid memory of tossing one's bike over on the ground to scamper off.

A prank gone bad? A few months ago I was late getting somewhere and passed a bike that had been tacked up on top of the tall stump of an old tree. Oh how I wanted to stop and get a shot of that!! For the next week I kept telling myself I needed to get there and get that shot. Then I forgot about it. Wouldn't you know it was gone by the time I remembered. I don't think this bike is going to walk away that easily but if it's a good one, I'm sure someone is going to figure out how to rescue it! Good shot!

Sad to see a good bike end up like that, but it is a great shot
