Petworth House by josiegilbert

Petworth House

This is the rear view of one of the wings of Petworth House in West Sussex. I went there with a friend and had a very enjoyable guided talk through part of the building. It's mainly closed at the moment for its annual clean etc, so we were shown how some of the work is carried out.
This looks like a very old building. It must have a lot of history

@dmdfday This isn't the best view of the house, as it's the back. Unfortunately its only partly open during the winter, so we could only visit one wing. The English landscape painter, JMW Turner used to work here for Lord Egremont, so they have a large collection of his paintings and sometimes the studio he used is open to the public. They also have paintings by Van Dyke, Lely, Hieronymous Bosch and others and some fantastic wood carving by Grinling Gibbons.
