IR lesson

I know this isn't the typical 'Rule of Thirds' layout being right to left and top to bottom flow but it has three distinct areas.

Shot with a R-72 IR filter, you can see that I was getting significant 'hot spots' and IR zones. I have since learned that it is due to the wide angle that I was using. IR filters do not work well at wide angles unless the lens has been calibrated to the IR spectrum, mine wasn't. Shot and learn....
It is a beautiful shot Joy. I love the lines and ripples in the foreground and the blue tones. Don't know anything about IR zones - will look it up.

hmmm, not sure about your comment since the eye-flow doesn't have to be the same as the water-flow.

Beautiful capture ---personally I don't follow photo rules, I just shoot & have fun:)

I think I need to google a lot, don't know what IR zones, filters, spectrum are and calibrating sounds particularly difficult :-) I do like your experiments and the colour in this image!

delightfully eery

@megpicatilly Thank you so much, this was one of my first IR filter shots, a 7 second exposure. I do like how the water blurred though.

@francoise Your are right about the eye flow and water flow, I don't think that I had the grid set on the camera when I shot this. I do now.

@joemuli Thank you a great deall. The shoot and have fun is my primary method, sometimes I just want to stretch my envelope and try to follow the 'rules'.

@overalvandaan The filters for IR are a good start but you can't really focus when they are attached. I am a tweak-er and so I fuss often before I press the shutter. I am still in the beginnings of learning about IR but, I got start somewhere.

@northy Thank you. Flowing water around here is road-trip material. This was down in Oak Creek Canyon on the way to Sedona.

Oh dear, should have guessed that (it's late here in Wales, bed time for me!)

I like the reflections and the tone of this picture but I am puzzled....please can you explain what you mean when you say "this isn't the typical 'Rule of Thirds' layout being right to left and top to bottom flow but it has three distinct areas." I am confused.....I always thought the rule of thirds was about having the main pulling feature in a photograph hit any one intersection of the grid lines? In your pic the little waterfall must hit that intersection and is the feature that my eye draws too.... Maybe my understanding of this is all wrong, so I would love for you to explain.

this is a nice shot

@stephanies Long ago in a galaxy far far away in art design class I learned that we look left to right and bottom up when looking at art. I was late to post for the 52 week challenge and stumped so I went with this, The grid lines on my camera a set but I gotta remember that I can squeeze them a bit now and then. I hope that this helps.

@blueberry1222 Thank you, Oak Creek Canyon.

That is so interesting to read @joysabin I have never been to art school or done anything like that so this is the first I read about this, I understand what you are saying now... thank you for taking the time to write it up, appreciate it :)
