Colorful Urinal

photo 163
For whatever reason, dogs love to use fire hydrants as urinals. The red of this one against the blue of the wall behind it really caught my eye.

did you HAVE to put that conundrum out there? now i'm gonna spend the rest of the evening wondering why dogs like to pee on fire hydrants... ;p you are right about the colours... the red and blue are hugely eye-catching... what a wonderful find!

Seeing this kinda makes me want to pee. Just kidding! Great, vibrant colors in this shot. Nice, Jeff...and what a creative title!

Ha! That's bright red! It so reminds me of the robot, Maximillian from "The Black Hole!" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qzUJJKDa558 I thought he looked like a fire hydrant then! LOL!

@marlboromaam I used to have a "The Black Hole" lunchbox! I loved that movie as a kid

@marlboromaam oh wait... now I'm picturing Maximillian as a urinal! THanks a lot! LOL

@jsw0109 Oh, you should've kept it! LOL! Probably worth a small fortune now!

@marlboromaam I still have 2 of my old lunch boxes... One is Buck Rogers and the other is Star Wars. I would have sworn I still had the Six Million Dollar Man too... I'll have to check storage.

@flagged I actually thought of that while I was taking the picture but wasn't sure if anyone would see a connection. Since you did, I've tagged it. And thank you so much for the fav!!

Love the way the bright primary colours play off each other. Amazing amount of texture on the fire hydrant. Great pic! I think the dogs use hydrants as message boards. Read messages with your nose, then lift your leg and leave your own! When Buddy does that we call it "checking his pee-mail". :) Bonus fun fact, the higher the pee spot on the hydrant (or pole or tree), the higher that dog's superiority is perceived by the other dogs who sniff it. That's why many dogs will practically fall over trying to lift their leg as high as possible on a hydrant like this! :) (apologies if that's TMI, lol.)

Beautiful primary colors, and this is an interesting fire hydrant. It looks very old, or is that your processing? Another great capture.
posted June 14th, 2012
@sandier its old... I only did 2 things to this photo....I used Topaz Adjust and turned the Warmth down very slightly, then in PSE I selected the guided tab and did the depth of field thing on the fire hydrant. That's all. The textures are all natural
