Now a rare sighting, this face will likely be forever my favorite one my son makes. Called “Squirrel!” by his mom and I, the mere glimpse of his flattened lips and chubby cheeks under squinted eyes sends me into fits of cuteness overload. Squirrel face was a lot more common when a Dieguito was a mere chick pea, but now that he’s toddlering up the joint, it’s an infrequent expression that’s usually reserved for when he says “Mami” which comes out as “Mi-mi.” The fact I caught it in some truly gorgeous morning light (and of course in the red wagon) made this photo extra special.
