Old World, New Life

There’s been no shortage of great photo opportunities during this Spanish holiday, just a dearth of time to actually go through them and pick good ones to post! This photo was taken in the main plaza of Talarrubias where a great, very old church looms over everything else with giant stork nests in its towers. It’s an impressive sight at all times of the day and while I have a few shots that better portray scale, I love this landscape-framed portrait of Diego with the bokeh of the church’s aged brick and wood in the background. There’s something here about the old and new, the contrast and compliment of them. Diego was baptized in this church, so there is some shared history, but it’s bigger than that. He’s pensive here, as if the many years of stories from the building behind him are being whispered to him.
