That birthmark isn’t as noticeable as it once was

I’ve not discussed much - if at all - about the rather substantial birthmark Diego developed shortly after he was born. At week one, this hemangioma was a mere speck in the center of his forehead. By six months, it looked like an angry volcano. We didn’t mind it much, nicknaming him “The Stawberry Unicorn” and we even had a little theme song we sang about him set to the melody of The Beatle’s “Stawberry Field’s Forever.” But it got too big by nine months, so we started treating it with medication and saw results pretty quickly. Between the medicine and his hair growing in, the mark is only really noticeable at times like this, after a bath when his hair is slicked back. The color is almost all gone and it’s not nearly as raised as it once was, making us feel a lot better about him going to school without kids poking fun. I guess those Strawberry Unicorns really aren’t forever after all.
I did wonder, glad it is receeding, but a fortunate location under his hair
