New Year Flare

Well, we’ve made it to the end of Diego’s second calendar year. 2017 was a good one for the boy, but 2018 was even better. Learning to walk and talk were a lot more exciting than, say, holding his head upright and having more solid bowel movements. He’s demonstrated empathy well beyond his years - and well beyond what’s been found in our country’s leadership this year, has shown interest in all things mechanical to an exciting, nearly frightening degree, and has continued to decrease the balance between laughing and crying by chuckling his way through almost every day. He was sick a whole lot in 2018, but only made one visit to the emergency room. He spent at least 1/3 of his waking hours outside, if not a bit more, and has displayed a genuine love for fresh air and sunlight that’ll ensure many good times playing, walking, and running in our backyard once the warmer times arrive in 2019. He’s a bundle of energy and he’s ready to explore the beauty of every coming minute, hour and day. So as I count off the last of 2018, I know that the next flip of the hourglass will provide us with countless moments representing Diego’s vitality and wonder, his gift to transform the passage of time into blessings more numerous than sand grains. Feliz Año Nuevo, mi niño.
