As the excavator left through our driveway - apparently for repairs; it’ll be back Monday - the little man grabbed his Elmo doll to curiously, somewhat solemnly, watch the exit. There was much beeping and repositioning of the machine as it rolled onto a flatbread truck. The boy stood in the cold breeze, stuffed animal dangling and concern rising. The fact this thing is coming back, only to leave again makes me wonder if goodbyes will assume a lengthy character for this child.
