There were five photos from this moment in our hotel room overlooking Times Square that I struggled to choose between. This one made the cut because I noticed that by some fluke of technology, the camera focused on Diego’s wide-eyed reflection in the window and if I’m anything, I’m a sucker for mirror images. So you get the scope of the city sixteen floor beneath us in contrast with his genuine awe of everything surrounding us. I also love that he is looking up, maybe at a bird or cloud or helicopter or possibly a tall roof he’s wondering how he can get to. This trip taught me so much about this child that I’d previously only suspected. He’s a true adventurer and if fear is a learned condition, that’s something he has no intention picking up.
