I'm really disappointed with my ball photos - I just couldn't get the right background - but I did like the effect of glimpsing everybody going in to St John's around the edge of the Fellows' Garden. 'In my day' you had to go in a pair - generally assumed to be male + female though I think even then you could put a bid in for a same sex couple - what you couldn't do was turn up as a big group of lads or ladies. I think this probably stemmed from it being an all male college until 2 years before I joined and a wish to avoid the sort of shenanigans that ensue when groups of over-privileged males get drunk together. There doesn't seem to be that rule any more but it's a bit of a photographic shame not to see more couples - and I do wish they would put their phones away and enjoy the experience. In just about every picture I took somebody or everybody was staring at a screen.
Anyway - I might try again later in the week if we get a cool enough evening,
It's the calm before the storm here - last night the doggy tranquilisers failed miserably at firework time - Monty spent the night under our bed with fans on him and a couple of bowls of water but I still worried about how hot it was. They will be closer tonight....
Despite the phones, this is a really lovely natural shot and the young lady in the centre's face is beauituflly framed. We have such high expectations of our photography on these special occasions and they are the hardest to get right as you just have to take your chances rather than planning the backgrounds. I hope when you return to your collections you will find lots more to be pleased with.
I like the casualness of this shot. All dressed up and still connected to their cell phones. Since they aren't looking where they are going, I hope none of them trip on a rock and fall! (Might damage their phone! Haha!)
When I looked at this first I didn't notice the phones , it is such a pretty composition . btw thank you for your comment Judith who would have thought when Helen introduced me to 365 I am still taking pictures each day
