I will get out and take some decent photos soon! My mum (heavily steered by my sister) bought me this lovely present at Christmas - lovely jewel coloured sock wools and two sock stretchers. I think I'm going to get some grey sock wool and do some fairisle with the colours.
BIG news this morning - I went to my swimming lesson and swam crawl with breathing from both sides. Usually I can only breathe one side or I drown but this time I got halfway down the pool and found I couldn't remember which is my good side - and then I nearly fell apart.... Anyway - will probably be breast stroke next week and I won't be able to move my arms for three weeks....
How interesting! never heard of such a thing - love the colours! Are you really having swimming lessons?? How brave! I can't swim.....too cold, too wet and once my glasses are off I'm as blind as a drowning bat!!! More power to you!
@Cherrill there's a beginners' class with people who are terrified of water. I really admire them - so easy to just not do it. Lifelong learning - it'll be my first time with a sock stretcher as well!
I learnt to swim about ten years ago. I was fed up looking embarrassed in the pools in nz with one leg on the bottom. Unfortunately I have not progressed beyond one length & that is nearly the end of me. I hate water so really I'm quite happy with that as to be honest I just like doing a length in the hot pools then lolling on those long plastic things. Good for you Judith, a crawl us very impressive! I so wish I loved knitting, you inspire me but I know I will buy the wool, or yarn as proper knitters call it, & then get bored with it, it's happened before!
Love your explanation to this photo - it made me laugh! I do - or did - swim and found that breathing out one side was natural and you had to force yourself to breathe out the other side. Maybe this is good for our brain - left or right side! ....if you actually swim nowadays!
What a fun gift! I've never tried knitting socks. And swimming...really want to but still trying to overcome a fear from an episode when I was 8. Encouraging to see I'm not alone!
Interesting sock stretchers, and love the purple. I got an annual intensive week of free swimming lessons as an adult by swimming in the pool used to train swimming instructors. Then I became allergic to chlorine, which is a PITA as I love swimming. Those swimming lessons taught me butterfly, tumble turns, all sorts.
@shannejw We will be doing butterfly but I'm not sure my once frozen shoulders will run to that (or my core muscles or stamina!). Tumble turns will also be a challenge and rather interfere with the chat with friend at the end of a length! The chlorine thing is a pain - it makes me itch and I have had urticaria from pools but I think that may have been general filth and an over-warm baby pool. One of the hotels has an ozone pool that non-residents can swim in but it's very short even for me.
Such a wonderful image. Love the wool color and adorable sock bunny!
Good for you with the swimming lessons! I can only be grateful I learned to swim practically before I learned to walk...the thought of putting on a swim suit these days is the fear/discomfort I need to overcome. :)
That wool is a beautiful colour and well done to you on the swimming. I am quite fearful of the water, paddling with the grandchildren is about my limit
