Everywhere you go in Northumbria there's a breathtaking beach. This one is at Bamburgh which also has a beautiful castle right by the dunes. They didn't actually get much busier than this!
great sky and beach shot - I loved Bamburgh when I went through on my way to Lindisfarne a couple of summers ago, the beach and the countryside - very reminiscent
I love this stretch of coast - there is nothing (maybe Cornwall?) that beats it for me in the world! love the tide patterns. Only a teensy bit jealous that you're there and I'm here working!!
@sparkle Don't be jealous - I'm back to the ironing!! I have taken some shots to try out your tutorial - I did keep thinking it was up your street - or rather field!! Cornwall is stunning too of course but a lot busier in August - it's a hard push - Northumbria has great light and is incredibly dog-friendly, Cornwall has more artistic buzz about the place.... both have fab beaches...hmmmm!!!
@judithg Northumberland is the place to be for beaches and Cornwall is the place to be for cliffs!! agree that Cornwall is way too busy in the summer months! Bah to the ironing - get the laptop out and process some photos!! (the boys won't notice a few wrinkles in their shirts...promise!)
Northumbria is a very underrated county & the coast line is spectacular but then I am biased all my relations come from those parts on my dads side. We used to spend our earliest holidays in Newbiggin by the Sea !!
Judith, the lighting is great, the beach is great and the textures and patterns in the sand make the image stand out well. The sky adds to the drama of the shot.
Is it OK to add a bit of advice on shots like this? ....Don't be afraid of bobbing down low and getting the camera close to the ground and shooting slightly blind . The low angles will really emphasise the textures and patterns in the sand ....I've done a few beach shots low down and you will be amazed how dramatic they turn out. You could always lie down if you want to see the viewfinder ...lol...but shooting 'blind' is really easy. Anyway that's my little tip and advice...hope that is OK ?
@phil_howcroft LOL No I can't redo this one quite so fast!! I think I took some lower down but didn't quite get what I wanted - maybe I should have bobbed lower - I will have to go and look again at my album! I must say I found beach shots really tricky to get just what I wanted - @deens makes it look easy - all hers are stunning! I think part of the problem was not being able to see the shots properly on the screen because of the sun so I was guessing a bit till I got home. Also my son is still banging on about me not going out at sunset - but my little legs were tired after all that walking on sand all day!!
I had to pop in to say this is lovely. I think the sand textures are just beautiful. I hope you loved Northumbria and would love to hear about your holiday there If you would friend me on facebook I have upload tons of shots from my holiday. Loads from the beach at Bamburgh. I think I put the link on oneof my last photos here or just look up wendy chapman.
