I seem to have been falling behind schedule all day. I snapped this while marching Monty briskly around Willingham after making an unplanned visit to a friend in a panic. (More of a panic than absolutely necessary truth be known). There was a decrepit rusty barn in the field and I'd like to have scaled this barbed wire to get at it with my camera. Meanwhile Monty was not co-operating and kept tugging my arm in a quest for rabbits so sorry it's not more interesting.
Adam has just been telling us about his first 'outdoor pursuits' lesson at school during which they had to follow clues to a mystery site in the town. He said they weren't allowed to cross any roads so we had a lengthy discussion about how that would mean they would be walking round the school in circles and were they not trusted to cross roads (turns out they were allowed 3 road crossings and had to use ingenuity etc) before he remembered to tell us that the aim was to find and diffuse a 'bomb' (a chair leg, a button and an authentic puff of smoke!). He eventually confessed that although his team sprinted off and were way ahead of the opposition they were distracted by a doughnut offer at Tescos and came in last. Fair enough - I love a fresh doughnut. They are skinning rabbits next week.
Goodness it sounds quite an enterprising school keen on promoting thinking & working stuff out for themselves !! Very encouraging I think & even better they used their initiative & went for a doughnut !!!!
Excellent!! This is such a fantastic composition, Judith. So interesting how barbed wire can look so artistic. Sounds like Adam has a great class at school...wish we'd had "Outdoor Pursuits" when I was in school...and the opportunity to duck into a doughnut shop. :)
You took barbed wire and made a great photo with so many interesting parts...field, wire, fence post, grass and ivy...Great job! PS What kind of school does he attend?
the word ouch springs to mind and top marks to Monty for preventing you scaling barbed wire.....we sometimes like to rush in like fools for a photo opportunity and think with our cameras rather than our brains !!!
Nice composition :) ....the rust looks fab :)
As for your Adams's doughnut diversion... a cracking idea if you like doughnuts
@marytj It was an all boys school until last year when they went mixed although the girls are still a smallish minority. They always had a large scout troop but these activities as time-tabled lessons are new - I'm really pleased - I hope they don't run out of ideas!
I love barbed wire photos too. I love this shot. Skinning rabbits and defusing (diffusing?) bombs- Adam's definitely going to have all the essential life skills!
Outdoor pursuits sounds like a fabulous class. Wish my kids would have had something like that. They would have surely excelled. Barbed wire can be fascinating and very artful. You have done an excellent job of capturing it here.
