I left finding a photo until this afternoon, safe in the knowledge that a ghost tour around St John's College with @helenmoss would yield access to some new, normally unseen parts of the college that I could photograph. Unfortunately, it disappointed a little on two fronts - firstly we only walked outside the college and secondly St John's doesn't have many ghosts. It did warm up (or possibly chill down) towards the end with a good murder story and news of a discovery of 300 skeletons under the Divinity School across the road from the college. But in the absence of a 'Grey Lady' Helen and I took ourselves up one of the staircases to create one of our own.
A talk afterwards by Hugh Dennis of 'Outnumbered' fame was very entertaining indeed although he didn't have any ghost stories.
The perfect setting for your fabulous apparition 'capture'! Glad you got a good murder story out of the tour. I'm curious about the 300 skeletons across the street under the Divinity School.....
So atmospheric & a very clever ghost !! Lovely staircase with the wood panelling, bannister rail & period lighting ! The lighting is perfect for ghosts & the view through the window interesting !
@peggysirk It turns out that the Divinity School (which is Victorian) was built on top of the burial ground for the Hospital of St John the Evangelist. St John's College was founded in 1511 on the site of the hospital itself (which date from the 13th Century). Apparently 200 of the skeletons are complete and in perfect condition and are from the 14th and 15th centuries. Currently they are being studied in the archaeology department (a real windfall for some students no doubt!!) before a proper Christian burial - I'm not sure where they'll find to put them all.
@judithg Thanks for the fascinating info, Judith. There's my horror story...the thought of a 14th century hospital gives me chills! Ugh! Think I would've taken my chances with a root doctor, medicine man, shaman, voodoo priestess, or my own devices. Perhaps the souls that belong to some of those 200 sets of bones are thinking the same. :)
brilliant! I'm so impressed - the processing is great - you've even managed to fade out my very unghostly shorts-over-tights combo! I've no idea what you've done with the processing here but it's really spooky and I love the ghostliness of the building through the window too. it was a fun tour; we just needed a few more ghosts and access to some hidden rooms and secret passages and it would have been perfect!
great imaginative shot.
