I intended to find some 'facade' pictures for today but walking home past St Clement's church I was assailed by the scent of lavender. The warm sun on these late flowers was releasing the oils - and of course they have the ubiquitous September cobwebs.
I'm feeling quite concerned as there were three ambulances and an incident response team outside Gt St Mary's Church and from what I can gather somebody had fallen on the tower staircase. It's very narrow, steep and twisting and an awfully long way up if you're near the top- a nightmare for an injured person. I'm really hoping they are OK.
Some of you will know I have a 'spiral staircase in tower' phobia that I grapple with occasionally and it's got me wondering if it counts as a phobia if it's completely rational?! Also our 'suspect' package turned out to be a sort of hoax - not entirely 'sort of' as it could have blown up and done some damage but it wasn't very big - somebody has been arrested already fortunately. Anyway - amidst the mayhem St Clement's is beautiful.
Edit: Apparently a lady collapsed at the top so the firebrigade rescued her with their ladder. That's not pleasant but better than a falling down the stairs.
Crazy things are going on in Cambridge - oh my! I would not want to fall down that stair case, hope the person is ok now. Your beautiful autumnal shot represents the quiet calm Cambridge I know and nearly enables me to smell the lavender, too.
@jannaellen No - we can't manage without you ;0) - I've just found out she collapsed at the top so the firebrigade could lift her off the roof - nasty but not as nasty as a fall.
A beautiful soft picture with the lavender & to catch a spiders web too ...!!! Wonderful DOF & that light bit of greenery in the background just lightens it !! You have a St Clements in Cambridge too...I am hoping I might get to St Clements in London tomorrow if all goes to plan !
Judith I love how you slip the phrase 'ubiquitous September cobwebs' into your narrative......impressive words for a very impressive image...fantastic ubiquitous cobwebs :)
Exquiste photo ~ the lighting perfectly showcases that spiderweb...as well as the beautiful lavender! Gorgeous!! Hope that the injured individual is recovering well ~ sounds like a nasty fall. I'm thinking that didn't do much to ease your bathmophobia ~ fear of stairs. Of course, that's not 'spiral staircases in towers' specific. I think it covers all types of stairs and slopes. :)
@peggysirk And thank goodness I'm not afraid of baths!! You're right though - it is fear of stairs and not fear of heights which most people assume - hmm - bathmophobic - I like it!!!!
Judith this is so pretty, You caught it so perfectly. I am so glad it was a hoax, but that does not help the worry when people did not know that.I hope that lady is ok.
@judithg I don't know Judith but you certainly don't hear about many St Clement churches !! Funnily enough I have some B&B's staying for the last couple of weeks & their surname is Clement ! The St Clements in London is the RAF church & I have been along time ago but want to go again as my dad was in the RAF.
@happypat I just checked by previous picture of the inside http://365project.org/judithg/365/2011-05-28 & it does go back to when Cambridge was settled by Danes. It's now half Greek Orthodox, half High Anglican. Enjoy London!!
I'm afraid of falling too but I have broken my left elbow and shoulder in less than 18 months so I think it is a rational fear! I love this photo, great focus and such gentle colours. Fav.
