Well we've survived mad Marrakech - probably the most photogenic place I've ever been but not the easiest place to really make the most of. I was very conscious of who and what I was photographing as the locals are understandably fed up of tourists sticking cameras in their faces all day. If only I'd mastered the art of the hip shot - most of my efforts resulted in just that - photos of people's hips or feet! Anyway I'm starting with one of my favourite shots as it typifies the area we were staying in - dark, cool alleyways opening into bright sunshine. Shame I haven't quite got the little boy's silhouette right but apart from a slight straightening it's all SOOC.
Hi welcome back, I love this photo I think the silhouette of the boy is perfect . the feel of this shot reminds me of being in Saudi . looking forward to seeing some more pics. This one is a fav
Hi glad you're back! Hope you had a fabulous time.....still sooooo jealous!!They certainly aren't keen on photography.....many say no ( a religious thing ) and taking pictures of women is a no no especailly out in the countryside.......we put up a pair of binoculars in the car, cyclist thought it was a camera and immediately covered his face. However this is fabulous....a real sense of atmosphere....nice one Judith.
@katel I took almost no photos containing women due to that reason - I reckoned if you're covered pretty much head to toe you don't want to be photographed. Mind you it didn't stop the odd old man trying to grab my daughter....
This pic is so full of character; it's wonderful. I lived in Bahrain for a time and was surprised at how many people were willing to have their photos taken if you asked nicely. Candid shots are always better though - if you can get away with it!
Wonderful shot - glad you are back safely - I missed your posts. How brave you are to take pictures of people anyway - and in Marrakech - well - that would be WAY outside of my comfort zone! Well done! I love the natural framing by the shadows.
Welcome back. Love the light, shadows, bricks, color...the way you captured the connection between the man and boy and the action feel to each having a foot in the air. Look forward to seeing more as you have time. How's the shoulder?
@paulaag Hahaa - I don't know but I did think of calling the photo '1'. There were some places with really complicated markings which may have been for an auction or something but this was just random.
@judithg , thanks! i'm not sure why i even noticed it since there are so many other things to focus on on the shot. looks like a fabulous place to take pictures. i need to go back thru your album and check them out.......i've fallen behind I'm afraid:/
Wow this has proved popular ...and rightly so. It just hits the spot; the alleyway and harsh sunlight, cobbles etc. is pure Marrakesh (how would I know, I've never been - but I've read about it) and the silhouettes are splendid.
Just checking out the Marrakech tag - love this one! I *almost* got a similar shot in Essaouira, but the mother just wouldn't grab her boy's hand...regardless of how much I silently urged her to! ;)
