Invisible

Good and bad news on the streets of Cambridge today. I had a chat to one of The Big Issue sellers who has taken over from Graham, one of my favourites. Graham has got himself a full-time job and apparently it's going well. Even better news, the chap I was talking to is making good progress in getting a job himself. Sadly, it hasn't stopped the problem of people being on the streets. I don't know if this girl is actually homeless - Cambridge has a very good record in that respect - but it's no way to live. She must only see legs and bodies from down there and most people didn't seem to notice her at all. I had to give her a wide birth as her dog was growling loudly at Monty.
Great shot for the weekly theme.

Very nicely done. Her dog is still watching you! Nice to hear good news too.

Great street capture. Quite different from our normal view of Cambridge.

Looks like he could see Monty coming from a long way away!
Love the bike wheel reflection in the window behind her head!...Slightly hidden from view for some...but I spotted it and it made me smile...Thanks

it's the dogs i find the most intimidating , tho I fully realise they are the one constant friend..

She really stands out with that red jacket. I am so enjoying the response to the theme - a real window to other worlds, but also a reflection on how much the same people are, all over the world.

@deens It's a great theme although now I'm really trying to take Cambridge's more eccentric characters I'm finding I'm all fingers and thumbs!! And could't you have a won & suggested it a couple of weeks back while I was in Marrakech - absolutely fantastic place for street photography?!!

Love the focus and timing Judith. It's great to hear that some have the ability to get themselves out of that situation.

Its sad to see a sight like this , do hope things look up for her too. btw how is the shoulder ?
February 29th, 2012
@snowy It's been pretty bad since we got back form holiday but back to back Nurofen is helping a lot!
February 29th, 2012
Yes, sad....getting down to the pavement in public means you have nothing left ..respect for yourself and comfort.
February 29th, 2012
Hmmm she looks quite clean - maybe resting on way home after booted out of St Pauls :-)

Aww poor Monty, who would want to growl at him. Nice street shot.

Great theme shot! Love the bike wheel in the window. Busy street!

Good street shot.

I hope she has a safe place to stay at least - she looks so young. Congratulations on Top 20 for your crocus picture - definitely 2 sides of the Cambridge coin.

Marvelous street capture. Glad your acquaintance, Graham, is moving up in the world. I hope his replacement has the same good fortune soon.

@judithg Great shot! Have you seen two of our favourite characters of Cambridge - the busker in the bin, and the man we call Heavy Rocker Biker Man who cycles around with music blaring?
February 29th, 2012
Good shot. It's nice to hear that Big Issue works well and eventually helps people get back on their feet
February 29th, 2012
Sad. Very good street shot.
February 29th, 2012
sad sight - we have a Big Issue seller here, and we get them hanging around for ages, longer than they should, which makes us wonder - they get shipped in for miles for us

Good to be able to follow up on your local BI seller. Our local girl (when I'm in the midlands) has been there for a couple of years now, but really does stay the course in all weathers. Interesting street shot.

I had no idea what Big Issue was so I googled it...fascinating. I love your shot - whether she is homeless or not, what a strange place to park with a dog.
February 29th, 2012
Great street shot and it makes my heart go out to her. I'm going to checkout Big Issue. Somehow it's so ironic that she is invisible despite the bright red jacket

Great shot, but sad commentary of our times!

Thought provoking shot.

Great street shot. She does not look like a homeless girl, maybe tired or waiting for someone?

I agree with Paula. good shot though.

@lauralatham Yes I know who you mean - the place is full of characters!

Wonderful focus on her and the dog!

it's a great street shot Judith - good news your man got a job...I try and support my local guy when I see him.

She looks very down

So sad to see her sitting on the street with her dog! But it is a great street shot which just shows real life!
