Another of yesterday's shots showing Scudamore's Boatyard. Apologies for not having a today shot - I've been struggling a bit with my shoulder so I've been giving it a rest and not carrying my camera around. Which was a bit of a shame really as it was all go on Jesus Green. It's 'Caesarian Sunday' - the last Sunday before the exams start and the Green is invaded by various drinking societies including Jesus College 'Caesarians'. They dress up in fancy dress or stand around looking posh , drink A LOT, play fight and generally behave badly. Last year when the weather was hot the park was left in a truly disgusting mess and it didn't go down well with town or gown and the Senior Tutors were kept busy issuing fines. I sound like an old fogey - I don't mind a good party, I don't mind students standing around looking posh and drinking A LOT but there's something about this event which is everything bad about Cambridge students. Normally they add enormously to the richness of the town but this seems to be a new tradition and it's just a lot of being loud and unpleasant. It looks like a huge number of students but there are 10,000 altogether and 9,500 are no doubt busy working. On the other side of the Green Cambridge University Brass Band were playing a lovely concert for families - it's swings and roundabouts!!
In other news it turns out that the designer of our 'blind maps' died this week - hence the daisies - RIP Vernon McElroy.
I love the warm rich weathered wood....and the water all in soft focus. We have gatherings in our city...I won't name names....that leave similar bad tastes in mouths here...
Great dof. I'm so sorry that your shoulder has gotten so bad. I think I told you that the first time I got tendinitis badly I had to give up my beloved cello for years. May that not happen to you and your camera!
Great POV Judith. It's a long time since I've been punting in Cambridge! Sorry about your shoulder and hope it gets better soon. Have the doctors thought about a cortisone injection?
Well it's a beautiful photo and a very interesting story. I know what you mean about the shoulder. Mine plays up too and I'm sure my 1&1/2 pound camera doesn't help.
@rosiekind Yes thanks - tried but it didn't do anything & he doesn't want to try again until the specialist says so. Frustrating but quite a common problem I think - middle age!!
@sparkle Awake at 5am actually yelling in pain. LIke cramp and nerve pain mixed up all down my arm and no where to put it to make it better. Specialist in 2 weeks though I'm not sure what can be done.
@judithg only one thing for it, we'll have to turn you to non medicinal drugs and if that dpoesn't work, well, I don't know...put you all in plaster and make you rest up for a few weeks??
Think yourself lucky - in Leeds about 3 nights a week these fancy dress drinkers stagger their way from pub to pub down the Otley Road. Involving nothing so classy as a punt!
@bigsusan55 Oh really? It was all tidy by Sunday lunch so I thought maybe I'd unfairly maligned them. They were already heckling the kids on the skate park at 3 in the afternoon though.....
@bigsusan55 Well I wouldn't be surprised AT ALL if it got unpleasant - after all the fines last year they probably had a working party organised for tidying up! Ive a feeling Prince Charles got in trouble over those Jesus College drinking clubs!
@bigsusan55 LOL - he wasn't there was he - I'll enlarge my photos so you can trawl through and point out that you're never too old to get in trouble with your mum!!
Like the colours as well as the shapes. Shame about the students.
Love the treatment here. It has such a dreamy quality.
shame about students behaving badly
